Top tips for travelling like a local
It’s the age-old quandry - I want to travel. I want to see the world. I want to explore new places, new people and new cultures. I DON’T want to get ripped off or scammed at tourist traps and I don’t want an inauthentic, plastic experience of the place I’m visiting. I want to see the world through the eyes of the people who inhabit it day to day.
Good news! You’re not alone. We love seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, traditions and cuisine, in as authentic a way as possible. We tend to avoid the tourist traps when we can, as we chase a genuine, affordable traveling experience. Take a look at how we travel like a local, and check out our blog for the best tips and tricks as you Trek and Taste around the world!

We invite you to come with us on our adventures!
Meet Ellen
Hello there! I'm Ellen Sterling, a Dutch adventurer who's been calling the UK home for the past five years. I love to get lost in nature, hiking in the Surrey Hills. I love baking and I love animals. Take me hiking to see some animals, with a variety of tasty baked goods in my backpack and I’m happy! I’m an organiser too so, when it comes to travel, I like to have my ducks in a row before I set out, so I can truly maximise every experience! I’m also a host, by nature. Nohing brings me more joy than inviting friends into my home and making them feel welcome. That can be tricky while on the move, but I’m always looking for tips to bring back with me.
Meet Andrew
I’d say I’m adventurous too, but I’m also a homebody. I love the comfort and the familiarity of home, as well as the thrill of exploring new places and experiencing different cultures and people. I find the balance between those two in the “home away from home” - those familiar elements that we all share as people, across different societies, the world over. I’m lucky to be able to experience that through family spread across the world, in Italy, South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands and beyond. Besides that, I love film (Lord of the Rings, Blade Runner and Master & Commander are among my favourites), as well as sport, such as football, rugby and MMA. I’m also a single malt whisky fanatic and love seeing the drink growing in stature beyond the Scottish border.
